Notes on the included files
These GeoWorks Ensemble programs were all downloaded from America Online,
the official "home" for GeoWorks support. Included is an icon editor from
Germany, an icon conversion program (to .pcx), a DOS launcher maker, a program
to add icons to your geos.ini file, a background to .pcx converter and several
text files explaining how to use icons and DOS programs within GeoWorks.
1. Iconed.exe
Icon-edi.001
Icon.geo
This is a great little icon editor for GeoWorks. If you're using a
non-standard keyboard (such as the Tandy 1000 series), the program
will probably hang your machine. If so, pressing Numlock before
running the program will allow it to work correctly.
2. Iconmake.exe
Iconmake.eng
This program is used in conjunction with Iconed.exe. You can take
existing icons and extract the icons into .pcx files, edit them in
a paint program if you wish, re-make them into icons and edit them
with Iconed.exe. It's primary utility is for use with the GeoWorks
screen dumper (.pcx files). You can convert a screen dump of an icon
into an icon with Iconmake and then edit the icon or save it into
a DOS launcher with Iconed.exe.
3. Bkgd2pcx.exe
Bkgd2pcx.ENG
This program will convert GeoWorks backgrouunds to .pcx files or
vice versa.
4. Addicon.exe
Addicon_.000
This program will add an icon to your geos.ini file if you don't feel
comfortable editing it directly with a text editor.
5. Lnchmakr.exe
Lnchmaker.dat
L_maker.geo
This program will make a DOS launcher you can place in your \World
directory.
I don't have any .docs with this file but it's easy to use.
L_maker.geo is a DOS launcher. If you want to use this copy it
to your \World directory. Double click on the icon and GeoWorks
will run the DOS program Lnchmakr.exe. Or you can dispense with
the DOS launcher and simply run the .exe program from DOS.
Copy Lnchmakr.exe and Lnchmaker.dat into your C:\GeoWorks directory.
(This is where the L_maker.geo launcher looks for these two programs).
The Lnchmakr program will give you a series of prompts, including one
for an icon name (you should prepare the icon first). To use the
launcher, copy it to your \World directory.
6, Tips.doc
This is an extract from a larger file entitled "Tips and Tricks 2"
in which the author describes how it use several undocumented features
of GeoWorks Ensemble.
